DESCRIPTION:The Houston SPCA is the lead nonprofit animal welfare organization responsible for disaster rescue, recovery and relief efforts in the region. We were the lead agency with boats on the water and boots on the ground for Hurricane Harvey animal rescue, recovery and relief efforts. During the storm and in the weeks after, we rescued, housed, and reunited or rehomed more than 2,300 storm victims. Not only do we serve Houston and the surrounding area, but we also step in and extend our reach across the state, from the Mexican border to Louisiana, to respond to disasters and lend assistance to other shelters. The Houston SPCA serves as an active member on local disaster task forces.
